In October of 2012, a customer brought a fileknife he and his nephew had made to a farmers market I set at. He wanted it sharpened and I got his permission to have a bit of free will on it.
I enjoyed working the metal so much I started doing my own fileknives.
I googled fileknives and the prominent name that came up was, Logan Pearce Knives. This name to me is synonymous with the brilliant repurposing of old files, tools and everyday items. His father and grandfather were repurpose knifemakers.
These are my first attempts, starting in May 2013, at making a knife. To date all of the knives you see are what’s considered stock removal. Meaning I don’t have a forge so I simply remove metal until I have the desired shape and polish. I then attach a handle of bone, antler, micarta, wood or ?.
This of course lends itself to being a very hard but brittle knife so the majority, are for show, still capable of working, but mostly for show.
I’m hoping to get a forge soon, so I can create and do a knife properly.
All in time
